Genetically modified products - harm or advantage?


Recently use theme in food of genetically modified products (GMP) is very actual. And while scientists of all world argue on harm and advantage of these products, millions people already use them, staying in happy ignorance.

Genetically modified organism (GMO) created by method’s of genetic engineering - sciences which allows to enter in a gene of a plant, an animal or a microorganism a fragment of DNA from any other organism for the purpose of giving to it of certain properties. For example, tomatoes have received a gene of frost resistance from the Arctic flounder, the potato has received a bacterium gene, whose poison is deadly for a potato bug (Leptinotarsa decemlineata – lat.), rice has received the gene of the person which is responsible for structure of female milk which does a cereal by more nutritious. 

Whether transgene products are necessary to us? It is a question at issue. Supporters GMP assert that the gene engineering will rescue increasing population of the earth from the hunger, after all genetically modified plants can exist on less fertile soils and give a rich crop, and then long be stored. Risks at cultivation of genetically modified products and their use in food. Cultivation and the use in food of genetically modified organisms (GMO) is accompanied by several risks. Ecologists are afraid that genetically changed forms can casually get into the wild nature that will lead to catastrophic changes in ecosystems. Except the ecological risks connected with problems of cultivation GMO, there are food risks. The use of the transgene product received by change of a gene of the Brazilian nut in DNA of a soya, has caused allergic reactions to alien fiber in many people. The grades of plants steady against pesticides (for example, GM-soya and corn), can accumulate harmful substances and cause a poisoning at the use in food. 

Besides, there is a threat that in an organism horizontal carrying over of genes is possible. DNA is digested not up to the end, and separate molecules can get from intestines to a cage and in a kernel, and then be integrated into a chromosome. And really GM-insert were are found out in intestines microflora. At carrying out of researches by group British genetics led by Harry Gilbert it was found out that DNA from cages of genetically modified food are borrowed by bacteria of microflora of intestines of people with a remote thick gut. H.Gilbert's group has made independent experiment in which course it has been shown that plasmid’s and GM-insert can be borrowed directly by microflora of intestines one cage from three thousand. According to the Center under the control over dairy products and a foodstuff in the South German city of Vajnshtefane H'm-insert have been found out in milk of cows which fed GM with a forage.

Unfortunately, in sale transgene products arrive many. Plasmid’s with GM-inserts can get to bacteria of a gastroenteric path, and then and in blood cells, sexual and other cages of the person, transforming them. From "the transformed" sexual cages there will be children with genes from other kinds and classes of animals or plants, i.e. to appear genetic "chimeras", the majority from which, besides, will be fruitless. Acknowledgement of the stated researches Schubbert on mice which have found out genetically modified inserts in blood and in different bodies of pre-natal fruits and newborn little mice after feeding of pregnant females GM by a forage can be. 

The modern biotechnological companies which are engaged in manufacture of transgene products, develop prompt rates. To stop manufacture in which huge investments have been involved, it is almost impossible. Many known companies use GMO: Coca-cola, Pepsi Co, Nestle, Mars, Uncle Bens, Kellog’s, Cadbury. 

Genetically modified or usual products - freedom to choose for each person. This thesis in a root is not true, since use GM of food, it not a question of a survival of one person, and a question of a survival and mankind preservation as kind.

Uncontrollable consumption of genetically modified products can have unpredictable consequences in the future. Completely to understand all risks of the use in food of transgene products, should pass some tens years and be replaced some generations eating GMP. The main thing that then was not too late for correction of the errors admitted by gene engineering. Transgene products can become not panacea from all troubles, and terrible threat for the world. Unfortunately, while there are no the techniques, allowing to reveal mutants in vitro and deliveries of genetically modified products cannot be supervised. It is the most reliable to use domestic (Russian) products in food.

However, the person himself in the right to choose how to live and than to eat. The main thing that this choice was realised and was based on scientifically facts in evidence, instead of on hearings. According to official figures, GMO contain practically in every tenth product sold in Russia. On informal - in separate regions they are a part of third, and even half of articles of food. Annually into the country in the form of raw materials it is imported to 500 thousand tons H'm-components from the USA, Brazil, Argentina, China. By means of gene engineering grow up a soya, corn, rise. Them add in sausage, ice-cream, chocolate, sour cream, bread. And even in a children's food.
